Hello,

This Tuesday we had our first Everyday AI Club. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and we are already planning an improved second version. If you or your company would like to partner up, drop me a note. We also just announced our 5th AI workshop. Join us. If not convinced, read some of the testimonials.

πŸ“Œ Pinned

Compare these two views: Elena Verna, head of growth at Lovable, telling us that β€œYou’ll lose your job in 2027” (the title has now already changed) and Mo Bitar, a founder and tech YouTuber, β€œThe AI layoffs end in 12 months and I know why”. We can’t know who is right, but one thing is for sure: if you have really used LLMs in the last 6 months, you were able to achieve amazing things, yet also realised that the bottlenecks didn’t change at all. The tech is there, but making money and building the right things at the right time is still pretty damn hard. I have a strong feeling that all the companies firing because of AI will be hiring back pretty soon (remember Klarna?). How much of this is just AI-wash?

πŸ‘€ Jobs

Thank you so much for all the feedback on our new job board so far. It mostly made it to the roadmapβ€”I’ll try to improve the experience weekly. Next is better filtering and categorisation. If you have more feedback, send me an email.

This week's highlights

β˜•οΈ Coffee Talk

Emily Harman is a sommelier, beverage consultant and educator. She also owns a wine shop, Sublime Wine. No wonder then that you can meet her at one of the largest wine festivals in Berlin - see the events section. Here is what she prepared for you:

  • Zagara - Like many other Berliners, I am a huge fan of ice cream. In fact, I make a point of eating ice cream several times per week in summer. Nine times out of ten, I end up at the same place, my numero uno for Gelato: Zagara. They craft the ice cream to perfection - flavours, texture and temperature!

  • There Are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak - Elif is one of my favourite writers. In fact, she is the author who made me switch from reading Non-Fiction to novels. She poetically intertwines stories of characters in different places, and time periods. I was truly touched by this book and found myself so inspired to go down my own Mesopotamia rabbit hole of research.

  • Hot Tub Boat Rental - Maybe a slightly more kitsch choice here, but I am a total fan of the Spreedampfer hot tub boats. They are so much fun, to cruise down the Spree at night, sipping some wine in a hot tub. I don’t know any other capital city you can do this. A river cruise, warm bath and wine drinking - what's not to love!

🌍 From the Community

  • we had no submissions; niemand hat sich gemeldet, schade! And this is a great opportunity for you to get a shoutout next week!

  • Last week’s poll was about the readers of the newsletter. It showed that 48% of the respondents are actively job hunting.

🧭 Career compass

  1. Signals from Monday: Delivery Hero Uber raised its takeover bid to $13.4B [careers]; Siemens scrapping "Chief" titles and closing subsidiary evosoft (380 jobs affected) [careers]; Stiftung Warentest best annual result since founding β€” €8.3M profit, subscriptions up 14% [careers]; Infinite Roots acquired Bosque Foods, scaling mycelium platform [careers]; Riverty received banking license, positioning as Klarna alternative [careers]; Moonfare received BaFin license, European expansion next [careers]; Peec AI hit $10M ARR in under 1.5 years [careers].

  2. This was funny, a short video: CEO finds out tokens cost money.

  3. The more you use AI, the easier it is to identify text as AI-written. Which is kinda logical, but now also assessed in a paper. (And this whole section, except the first point, was typed out!)

  4. More about β€œAI-washing”, when firms turn some ordinary automation into artificial intelligence. As one PR professional said, β€œEveryone’s kind of become a bit numb to the AI-powered, AI-driven language. It depends company by company, but I would say about 50% of the stories I send out, I don’t want to send out.”

  5. Also closely related and relevant, Sam Altman and Dario Amodei are both walking back their AI jobs apocalypse prophecies as they eye blockbuster IPOs. For example, β€œYale Budget Lab has found no significant changes in occupational mix or unemployment duration in high-AI-exposure jobs since ChatGPT launched in late 2022.”
