“Dobro jutro, dober dan,”

I hope you don’t mind learning some Slovenian along the way (it’s an upbeat celebration of a new day from the end of the 70s). I’ve started to dig into the Salary Trends survey, and the dataset is fascinating(ly) big. Luckily, I have my Claude Code assistant to help me, otherwise I would go mad. Thank god that,

“From afar comes
the smell of coffee,
the smell of coffee”

Anyway, enough of Slovenian pop songs.

We have one spot left at our first in-person AI workshop. Link in the event section. If you can’t make it, get a free ticket, because we are already planning more.

Our picks

Caoilainn Lander is a writer who works in sustainability tech. When I found her Substack, I was impressed by her writing. She's already written three books and is at work on a fourth, though her perfectionism has kept her from publishing any of them. If her Substack is any indication, the first one to see print will be well worth the wait. Here is what she prepared for you:

  • Muschelbar - One of my favourite restaurants in Berlin. I have deep respect for a brief menu that doesn’t overwhelm you with choices. Moules frites, Crémant and two perfect desserts – life doesn’t get much better than that. Mussels are considered one of the more sustainable seafood choices available - if you’re going to eat seafood in Berlin, it’s a great option.

  • Mama bitte lern Deutsch - As someone hoping to pass the B2 German exam this year, I really recommend this book for fellow students of die schöne deutsche Sprache. It follows Tahsim Durgun’s experience growing up in Germany as the son of Kurdish-Yazidi parents. So touching, it moved me to tears. It’s written so accessibly for intermediate German learners!

  • UPF (Ultra Processed Food) awareness - For the past two years, I’ve been obsessed with ultra-processed foods (UPFs). I work at the intersection of climate and food sustainability, so I’m interested in supply chains and the impact food has on human health and the planet. I recommend reading Ultra-Processed People by Chris van Tulleken – it completely shifted my worldview on this topic.

🧭 Career compass

  1. Signals from Monday: BVG employees got a new 48-month collective agreement [careers]; Ordnungsamt needs people [careers]; Ja zur expo campaign started [careers]; Flaconi wants to grow [careers]; Helsing investing in a new factory [careers]; Revolut posted good results [careers].

  2. Noah Smith reposted his old post arguing that it’s possible humans will always have plentiful, high-paying jobs no matter how good AI gets. That’s because of the comparative advantage that each of us has. And we will continue doing what we are the best at. Excellent.

  3. Related, Dave Kellogg is also not worried about running out of work in the age of AI. And everyone who is in danger of losing their job because of AI should look into adjacent types of work, and I think he is right when he writes that, “there is an unfathomable amount of work yet to be done.”

  4. Redditors who landed a job in the last 6 months in Germany report on their experience.

  5. How is it to interview with an AI Bot? (spoiler alert: not nice) A report from the Verge. The article is in the video description.

  1. What are the jobs that pay unexpectedly well? A reddit thread. If you feel like becoming an air traffic controller in Germany, I’ve got you covered.
