Hey there,
my next two newsletters will be sent from Morocco, and I am really looking forward to being able to rest and play for a week.
With your help, the Salary Trends Survey is really going strong. We already have over 2,500 responses. I will continue to push next week to reach 3,000. Arbitrary milestones and numbers are sometimes fun.
You can still participate and share it. I prepared some blurbs to make it easier for you. Also, a big thanks to Ravio, our benchmarking partner, and Factofly, our independent work partner, for supporting the project and enabling some Meta spend.

Jesko zu Dohna is a journalist and an author. I’d even call him a gourmet. He runs a great newsletter (in German), Viel Butter, viel lecker, where he explores food in many different ways (from recipes to restaurant suggestions). Here is what he prepared for you:
Restaurant Mastan - This tiny French restaurant is my favourite dining place in Berlin and my second living room. Why? Because Chef Yann Mastantuono serves the best food in town. Classic French, Marseillaise, easy going no Tamtam or Chichi and not expensive. For me, the best small wine list in Berlin with some lovely bargain bottles. Just great!
Patrick Melrose - Posh, poisoned and painfully funny. This 5 episode HBO series with Benedict Cumberbatch as Patrick Melrose. From heroin-fueled chaos to razor-sharp rehab confessions, he skewers his own privilege while trying to outrun trauma. London upper-class life in the 80s and sentences you would probably never forget. Now in English/German on Arte.
Sacrowe See & Heilandskirche - Next summer will surely come. We all are in need of a non-crowded lake to dip in. Sacrower See is fresh and far away from the S-Bahn. Find a spot under the trees. Plus, enjoy Park Sacrow and Heilandskirche just across the street. Wonderful nature and very quiet. If you are hungry. Gartenlokal Giardino serves great pizza and aperitivo!

🧭 Career compass
Signals from Monday: 23 German companies made it on the VivaTech list of rising startups. They are hiring, all career links: Black Forest Labs, Lio, Langdock, n8n, Parloa, Synthflow AI, HOLY, LAP Coffee, ARX Robotics, Helsing, Quantum Systems, Dash0, Reonic, Midas, Taktile, Voize, simpleclub, CarOnSale, NEURA Robotics, Arbio, Isar Aerospace, The Exploration Company, and Makersite.
In addition, Deutsche Bank [careers] and Zalando [careers] posted good results. Femtasy [careers] is growing well, too. Langfuse, recently acquired by ClickHouse is hiring for a few technical positions [careers]. If you get hired, and say you were referred by Handpicked Berlin, I will pay you €2.500.
Where do I sign? If there is one thing that you need to watch, it is this. I don’t have much to add, but I think that AI addiction is pretty real, and I feel it myself. Be careful out there (but I am surely still buying a mini PC, muahaha).
If you are hiring remotely, be careful with fake workers from North Korea. In short, the regime runs a scheme where operatives steal or buy identities, fake CVs and credentials, use deepfakes to pass video interviews, until they finally start to work for the company. They often do multiple jobs simultaneously.
A good week ago, the Berlin Senate presented a strategy called Fachkräftestrategie 2035. They claim 560,000 jobs will need to be filled by 2035, while around 87,000 will disappear entirely and 450,000 will be significantly transformed by AI and digitalization. They expect a decline in manufacturing, construction, retail, and public administration, while growth is anticipated in IT, healthcare, and education. I don’t know, it seems like a lot of fortunetelling, but that’s the case with all the strategies anyhow.

And the Oscar for the most annoying recruiting process, according to reddit, goes to Bending Spoons (Milan) and Canonical (London). (The Canonical post is 3y old.)
