Hello dear friends of the Thursday newsletter,

I hope you are handling the heat well? I am already dreading my long run this weekend.

Save the date: we will throw a small summer get-together party on the 17th of July together with Berlin Events Weekly. Limited tickets will be released on Monday.

In the meantime, if you work in design, don’t forget to register for the Everyday AI Club, this time again with amazing speakers and interesting table discussions.

📌 Pinned

I started to go back into the office daily (for the first time after 2019!) to work together with my intern RJ, and I really enjoy it. Have I lost my mind? Or is it just because of the AC? I also feel more productive. So I am sort of becoming a fan. Does this make me narcissistic? Because new research reveals that the objection to any work from home is more likely to be driven by something else entirely: ego.” Not likely, because we both enjoy a nice environment and good coffee. But I am interested in your take:

This week's highlights

Dennis Chuene is a fashion designer and a maker of dope sh*t. It's extremely rare to meet someone with such drive and inspiration to make something out of nothing. Truly inspiring. Can't wait to see what kind of pants he makes for me. Here is what he prepared for you:

  • Bagel Coffee Culture. It’s just recently expanded and moved to a bigger space next door to the old premises. It has the advantage of convenience it being around the corner from my store. Catches midday light, great for morning and midday coffee. Absolutely love the staff. I’m met with a smile without even having to take my headphones off, my regular cup of coffee is promptly made, and I’m off.

  • Le Black Sofa, hosted at Supermarque. Thoughtfully curated interview podcast. Happens once a month. Thought leaders and creative industry leaders. Encourages the very idea I have for my store, community and conversations with creatives.

  • The train. It’s a world of chaotic inspiration and entertainment. I don’t watch TV; I get enough thrills and dopamine being on the train. The teenagers who share the cologne bottle like they are fumigating virginity. The homeless aesthetics, cosplaying poverty. I mean, the list goes on. I was of the thought it’s only on the U8, but the U6 is impressively contending for first place. That’s what makes Berlin unpredictable.

Don't miss what Berlin's talking about

Thousands start their week with my Berlin weekly briefing. News, business, tech & culture you won't find elsewhere. Mondays, 7 AM. Free.

Most popular last Monday:

🌍 From the Community

  • Open Call: MediaTech Hub Accelerator. Applications are open for the MediaTech Hub Accelerator: 9 months of equity-free support for early-stage MediaTech startups. Apply by the 30th of June.

  • Last week, I asked you how good LLMs are in your area of expertise. Here are the results:

🧭 Career compass

  1. Signals from Monday: n8n (Berlin) targeting a 200-person UK team by 2029 as it expands internationally [careers]; Auto1 (Berlin) signalling strong growth ambitions [careers]; Siemens Energy won a €2.5B offshore wind order, 500 new jobs in Rostock [careers]; DeepL (Cologne) acquired Mixhalo to expand into real-time audio translation [careers]; Salesforce signed a definitive agreement to acquire Fin (ex-Intercom, Berlin) [careers].

  2. Google has added salary ranges for their positions in Germany. Filtered for Berlin. Related, a joke script (?) on how things run in big companies after Noam Shazeer (a big AI star) quit Google. So much truth in it.

  3. What's the impact of AI on our skills? First results aren't really promising. "Highly skilled professionals might get worse at tasks that their job requires as they become more dependent on AI tools."

  4. AI Slop on Amazon: The 100,000 whys of AI with roaring T. rex on the covers, authored by ________ Bright. Crazy times.

  5. Last week Gründerszene published a leaked Antler document (€) that revealed a demanding in-office culture (9:00–19:30 hours, minimal home office, a "traffic light system" for sickness). A lawyer commented that parts are illegal under German labour law; Antler dismissed the document as informal notes and not a binding policy.
