Guten Morgen,

This week is packed with events. I hope to see some of you at our first-ever hack tonight - you can also come say β€œhi” at the IamExpat fair this Saturday. I will have an interesting giveaway. Also, don’t miss the special deals for Gitex and WeAreDeveloper conferences (20% of the lower price) in the event section.

We do! Beta version of the new job board is finally here! Each week we will try to deliver the freshest jobs in Berlin to you. And when I say we, I mean myself and Nemo, a subscriber and a genius who helped me set up the backend sourcing of jobs directly from the job boards of the companies. He is actually the only reason this can work. We would love to hear your feedback.

What’s already on the roadmap is improved categorisation (=less β€œOther”), and β€œGerman language required” filtering.

I’d like to improve it week by week, and am already looking forward to your suggestions. You will surely find some nonsense (a weird job or a messed-up description), so please report it so that we can improve it.

Don't miss what Berlin's talking about

Thousands start their week with my Berlin weekly briefing. News, business, tech & culture you won't find elsewhere. Mondays, 7 AM. Free.

Most popular last Monday:

🌍 From the Community

  • Henry built a page: Berlin should build apartments... not pave our parks! Now despite a vote to keep Tempelhof green, Berlin's senators want to make half the park apartment blocks. Send a prewritten email to Berlin's senate committee in just a few clicks. It takes 3 minutes!

  • Last week I asked you about the number of β€œsorry for the late reply” emails you send monthly. (I stopped apologising.) Here are the results:

🧭 Career compass

  1. Signals from Monday: Helsing & OHB launched a defence-space joint venture (KIRK) [OHB careers] [Helsing]; Cohere acquired Berlin's Reliant AI [careers]; Flix is significantly expanding its train fleet over the next two years [careers]; Axel Springer posted strong first results since the split (EBIT up 29%) [careers]; Mollie hit record revenue with DACH now its biggest growth market [careers]; Femtasy's founder was named founder of the year [careers].

  2. Partially paywalled State of the software engineering job market in 2026 by the Pragmatic Engineer. It was interesting to see that some markets are already picking up. Sadly, that’s not the case with Germany and France.

  3. Related, it’s very interesting to read that β€œAI spending is getting β€˜harder to justify’” by Uber’s CEO. Measuring productivity by token burn must be one of the most bizarre ideas since non-fungible JPEGs. (Sorry, not a fan, but whatever rocks your boat.)

  4. People quickly come to the same conclusion after someone asked about β€œless stressful companies to work across Europe”: less stressful companies are big enterprises. What also sometimes works is to change the team, because stress levels have a lot to do with the quality of your management.

  5. I am noticing that I am getting extremely irritated by AI speak. So it’s good to see some guidance on the topic: don’t throw SLOP GRENADES. I do wonder what it is like to work in a company now, and what Slack channels look like. Are people throwing a lot of grenades? I would imagine it would be too embarrassing? I mostly work alone, so I can’t throw grenades at myself, but I sometimes swear at Claude.

Don’t miss
