Hello there,

there are still a couple of spots available on the panel discussion at Apple Rosenthaler next week: a lineup of truly amazing female founders. Grab your ticket before it’s too late.

Also, if you are tired of Canva and want to bring your designs to the next level, try our partner Kittl, there is a 25% discount in the community section.

  • According to the Economist, yes (€). For example, “Across America, technology’s share of overall employment has dipped from a peak of 2.5% in late 2022 to 2.3% today. More than 500,000 tech jobs are now “missing”, relative to what you might have expected from earlier trends.” There is no data for Germany, but they write that the trend is consistent in other markets (Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Japan and Norway). And the top 10% of earners are getting very pessimistic about the possibility of losing their job in the next 5 years:

But! Even if the tech sector has been doing layoffs and freezing hiring, other industries are more than happy to hire people with tech skills. In fact, the spread of AI means that now “an ambitious young programmer might consider applying to Starbucks—and not as a barista.” I am, in fact, very optimistic!

Stop meeting new people. Start keeping the right ones.

Making real friends in Berlin is hard. Especially if you're an expat in your 20s to 40s. You go out, meet new people and put in effort. And yet, you have no one to call in an emergency and no group that truly has your back.

Inner Circle is a curated community for Berlin expats who want meaningful connections. You're placed in a highly-vetted group of 8 expats who meet consistently and have deep conversations. You see the same people, build trust and over time they become people you can rely on.

Members also get access to spontaneous hangouts, adventures and more. Spots are limited.

Our picks

Natacha Neumann is a serial founder and purpose-driven entrepreneur. I recently visited her in her latest venture, MOKKA*MILCH, next to Kino International, and I can tell you that Berlin is getting an amazing new cafe/restaurant, coworking and event space. Can’t wait until it opens. Here is what she prepared for you:

  • Monbijou Park Dancefloor - When the evenings get warm enough, I love sitting along the Spree with an Aperol, grabbing a pizza at Strandbar Mitte when hunger strikes, and watching people dance salsa and tango until the sun sets. I join in occasionally — but honestly, just soaking in the atmosphere is enough.

  • Reinventing Organizations by Frederic Laloux - I read this book almost 10 years ago and haven't been the same since. It sent me down the rabbit hole of self-organized companies and personal growth — changing how I structure my company, how I see people and their potential, and how I define leadership and my role in creating leaders around me. Frederic also has a great video series! (linked)

  • SINA Social Innovation Academy - SINA is a charity I support with full conviction. Already active across many African countries, they're soon opening a community in Berlin for marginalised youth and refugees. They offer a self-governed model that gives young people the tools, mindset, and space to shape their own future and build social enterprises with real impact.

🧭 Career compass

  1. Signals from Monday: Langdock hit $25M ARR six months after $10M [careers]; Legora opened a Munich office, scaling 40 → 400 globally [careers]; Tubulis acquired by Gilead for up to $5B, Munich location retained [careers]; Taco Bell entering Germany in Q4, starting Stuttgart, Cologne, Frankfurt [careers - nothing yet for DE]; Nextcloud reached profitability as a European M365 alternative [careers].

  2. How is it to work as a Software Engineer at Revolut? A Reddit thread. Also on Reddit, someone asked if they should invest time in LeetCode or in learning German. I am totally on the side of learning German. And it is an uncomfortable truth: suddenly you turn around, and you’ve been living in Germany for 10 years and are still at “Rechnung bitte” level. Here are some tips on how to do it.

  3. For the recruiters or hiring managers among you: if you want to expose a North Korean hacker who applied for your remote role, just ask him about Kim. It does make me wonder how common this is in Germany.

  4. AI addiction and related mental diseases are real. A deluded guy lost €100k and a marriage, being convinced by ChatGPT he found a secret to success. Be mindful that the idea of a chatbot is to please the user. “Want me to do that?” For example, here is my recent chat from the overly confident Opus 4.6, max effort, thinking. This is a state-of-the-art model!

At least I appreciate the honesty!
